Setting up streamelements for obs
So you're a fresh streamer and you would like to display what people are saying on your screen. Maybe you tried google and found but despair. (Ideally in the future you'll find this post!)
Well, you're in the right place!
For this we will be using OBS and Streamelements! (Streamlabs is garbage, do NOT use it!)
Making the widget
Go to https://streamelements.com/dashboard/. On your dashboard, click on Streaming tools and then Overlays. New overlay lets us create a fresh widget. Klick on that!
Now, select your resolution and click on the little plus button. There, select Streaming tools and Your Streams chat.
Customise your widget
- Give it a name!
- Select a theme! (Custom lets you select a transparent background!)
- Give the widget the name of any bots to not show up on screen.
To use this widget create a browser source in obs. You can get the url for this by clicking on the little chain icon in the top right of the streamelements editor! And you're done!
Congratulations! You have made a working chat display!
Bonus tip: If hold alt while moving the boundaries on your obs elements, you can change the visible area without reizing the object.
Summary
Make sure streamelements is set up. Then go to https://streamelements.com/dashboard/overlays and click on new overlay. From there: plus button ⇒ Streaming tools⇒Your Streams chat. Configure your chat display, place it in a browser source and your are done!
